Intl. Aviation
Factsheet
While not (yet) having a formal commitment under the UNFCCC, The international aviation regulatory body (ICAO) announced its contributions to the global climate change mitigation effort on 18 Jul. 2013. See the respective ICAO document here. The main target is a carbon neutral growth target, i.e. a CO2 emission stabilisation from 2020 onwards. For illustration purposes, we divided the international aviation emissions by 5% of the world's population, a rough (too high?) approximation for the share of people that use international aviation services. The population share of frequent flyers would likely be much less.
- Change of per-capita emissions from 2010 to 2030 (average): +28%
- Per-capita emssions in 2030 (average): 1.7 tCO2/eq
- Global rank of national emissions excl. landuse (out of 195 countries): #21 in 2010 and #13in 2030.

In addition to the above default Factsheets, we produced Factsheets with alternative data sources and metrics to compare the different greenhouse gases. They are:

Disclaimer & Comments
Due to the size and quality of the underlying data-sets (and in some cases the "fuzziness" of the NDC or INDCs) we have not been able to produce "perfect" Factsheets every time. Please leave a comment if you find a glaring mistake or if you want to share an opinion about the NDC or INDC. Please be respectful.
