Assessing Changes and Developments to our Electrical Grid and System
Anne Pearson, CEO of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), will discuss the pivotal role that AEMC occupies in changing how the power system is managed in response to the changing generation mix and replacement of traditional coal fired generation with renewable sources. Maintaining energy security and reliability of the power system including when unexpected breakdowns occur. The role the AEMC is doing in this regard, how it supports informed debate, engagement and impartiality as well as touch on the NEG recommendations.
Anne Pearson was appointed the Chief Executive of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) in February 2016. AEMC is the expert energy policy adviser to Australian governments; Its role is to make and revise the energy rules and provide advice. Before this, she served as AEMC Senior Director, Market Development with responsibility for delivering multiple reviews and rule determinations. Before joining the Commission in 2007 she was Executive Manager of Retail Regulation at Energy Australia. Anne’s prior appointments include law firms Freehills and Deacons, where she worked on a variety of commercial matters as well the introduction of retail competition in the New South Wales retail gas market and corporatisation of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme. She holds a Degree in Arts and an Honours Degree in Law from the University of Sydney.
