Green roofs are increasingly being used internationally for their environmental, social and economic benefits. Much of the evidence of benefits is based on research from cooler, temperate climates, the evidence from drier, warmer, Mediterranean climates, such as much of southern Australia, is little reported.
In 2008 Mr. John Rayner and Dr. Claire Farrell started a research group, based at the Burnley Campus, to investigate green roofs further. Since then they have been exploring interactions of plants, substrates and water in green roofs and social responses and behaviours. This presentation will outline their research outcomes so far, the partnerships and projects they have contributed to along the way and their plans for the future.
